In 1970, composer Steve Reich learned African music in Ghana, and incorporated such art into his 1971 piece, “Drumming”. Yeabon Jo ㅣFlowing "Flowing" is a combination of Korean percussion instruments and electronic sounds, and is derived from the fact that the end of the flow has the potential to change something. The percussion sounds unique to the janggu and the electronic sounds of the computer are mixed or extinguished through the ‘inflow’ of each other's sounds, shaping the music to be more three-dimensional. Hyeri Kang l From the Underground Through darkness, hardship, fear, and loneliness, one endures a seemingly endless tunnel and eventually welcomes a new spring. Amid the biting cold and the hard, frozen earth under the snow, even the tiniest seed prepares for spring, patiently enduring adversity with strong, steadfast vitality. Life sometimes demands endurance. By fully trusting and living through the present moment, one can eventually surrender to the brilliance of that powerful life force. This work centers on the soribuk—traditionally a supporting drum in Korean music—augmented by four percussionists, creating a single, long trajectory of energy. Il-Ryun Chung ㅣ Timing This work was inspired by Korean shamanic percussion music, specifically Byeolsingut and Dodanggut. The composer did not use existing rhythmic patterns or melodies, instead creating a new polymetric structure (primarily 5:3) to achieve a well-balanced pulse and complex groove. The only pitch used in this piece is B, played on the jing and crotales. These two instruments always sound at specific points within the large cycle employed by the composer, symbolizing the eternity of the universe (space). #소리퍼커션#클로징스#양혜규 Sori PercussionㅣClosings 이 작품은 양혜규 작가의 [침묵의 저장고 - 클릭된 속심(2017)]에서 영감을 받아 작곡되었다. '클릭된 속심'에서 고정된 외피와 회전하는 내피를 통해 겹겹이 열림과 닫힘이 생성되는데, 이를 자유와 비자유, 조화와 비조화 등의 상반되는 두 가지 의미로 두고 해석하여 곡에 담았다. 특히 회전하는 내피와 외피가 겹칠 때 그 외의 부분에서 여백이 생성되는데, 이 '닫힘이 겹쳐서 열리는 현상'에 대해 흥미를 갖고 작업하였다. This piece was inspired by Haegue Yang’s [Silent Storage – Clicked Heart (2017)] In the artwork, a fixed outer skin and a rotating inner skin create layers that open and close, which are interpreted in two opposite meanings such as freedom and non-freedom, and harmony and incongruity.
